DCP Mumbai arrested with Brown Sugar worth lakhs

Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Baburao Dhable was arrested by the
crime branch Mumbai with a consignment of 1.54 kg of brown sugar from
Worli on Tuesday afternoon. He was with Amar Singh alias Munna, a
narcotics smuggler from Uttaranchal, who lives in Bandra. The local price
of the seized drugs has been estimated at Rs15 lakh while it would fetch
around Rs1.5 crore in the international market.
Dhable was on Wednesday presented in the district court where he was sent to Police remand till March 9^th.
The accused has a chequered career in the department. In 2006, excise department officials caught him at Mulund check naka with 15 bottles of alcohol, which he was trying to smuggle into the city. He was then suspended from his duties but he got back his job after appealing to a district court. Dhable managed to create a good reputation in the department and taking advantage of that started smuggling drugs. He committed both the crimes in his official police vehicle.
